Health spending rose in 2007

According to the latest figures published by the Directorate of research, studies, the evaluation and statistics (Drees), health expenditure stood at 206.5 billion euros in 2007 in France. This figure corresponds to an increase in health spending in France, which amounted to 198.3 billion euros in 2006. The consumption of goods and medical treatment “represents the largest share of these expenditures, with 163.8 billion euros.An increase of 4.7% in value was recorded on these expenditures. If this is a sharp increase, it remains lower than it was between 2001 and 2003 (average of 6% per year), according to Drees. The “sustained increases were also noted as regards expenditure on drugs and consumer care physicians.
